From Usedom to the Brocken with the Bike Team Zinnowitz
Friday, 24 July 2020 on Usedom. Today at 2 p.m. Ronny Dick and eight friends will start an extreme tour there: Within 24 hours the dedicated athletes will drive 470 kilometers for several good causes – non-stop, over 1,141 meters of altitude difference, from the coast to the Brocken in the Harz Mountains. In short: A route for good causes. Five questions to the initiator, a native Norwegian.
How did you get the idea for this tour?
Ronny: There is a lot coming together. Our Bike Team Zinnowitz has already ridden the 300-kilometer Mecklenburger Seen Runde three times for a good cause. This event was cancelled due to Corona this year. But we were well prepared and decided to organize and conduct a fundraising tour ourselves. This is how the campaign “The north moves together” came into being.
For which projects are you collecting donations with this tour?
Ronny: We will use the proceeds to support a Greifswald ambulant children’s and youth hospice service that wants to establish an inpatient facility. The support association for primary school in Zinnowitz will also receive a part of the donations. A third sum is intended for a project in the Brocken region.
What makes you tick?
Ronny: I come from high-performance sports, I have been running a lot since I was a child and I have participated in national and international competitions as a triathlete for many years. Then I took a break from work and family, and since 2015 I have been training professionally again. Usedom is a wonderful place for that. Well, and I now have children myself. There you see the world with different eyes and if you can do something good with your own talent, I like to be there. In addition, as branch manager of the Usedom Tourist Office, I am of course also promoting our beautiful, sunny island, which is ideal for walking and cycling.
What brought you to the Parallel Passion?
Ronny: Also the Mecklenburger Seen Runde, because in the cancellation email the invitation to this unusual bicycle challenge The Parallel Passion was sent. We feed all nine of our bicycle activities into the Parallel Passion. This way, we are making parallel routes for other good causes, because the kilometres of the Parallel Passion are also connected with fundraising activities. By the way, on our extreme tour a lot of things are connected. Detlef Koepke, the organiser of the Mecklenburg Lakes Tour, will be riding with us for a few kilometres towards the Brocken. “The north moves together” plus Mecklenburg Lakes Tour plus The Parallel Passion. All three actions are together during the 24 hours from Usedom to the Brocken.
What does your family say?
Ronny: Our nine-year-old daughter is already a competitive swimmer and thinks it is great. The little one, six years old, says that daddy wants to go to the Brocken – the word has probably appealed to her. My wife, a passionate sports muffle, thinks that you can always count on crazy ideas from me. She’s right, I guess.
Dear Ronny, the Parallel Passion team wishes you a good journey and much success with your tour. We hope that you will arrive healthy and safe on the Brocken one day later – by 2 pm at the latest, of course 🙂
